Clinical Profile

Dr Christopher Kocx is a Consultant Cardiologist with subspecialty expertise in advanced cardiac imaging, encompassing cardiac MRI (CMR), cardiac CT, and transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE). He holds dual international certifications in echocardiography from both the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) and the US National Board of Echocardiography (NBE) — a distinction held by very few cardiologists in Australia.

Dr Kocx’s clinical focus is on non-invasive cardiac diagnostics, with a particular interest in right heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, and pulmonary hypertension. He currently holds an advanced cardiac imaging fellowship at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital — one of Australia’s foremost cardiac centres — where he works alongside internationally recognised leaders in cardiovascular medicine.

His approach combines the precision of multimodal imaging with a commitment to evidence-based, patient-centred care. By integrating CMR, CT, and echocardiography, Dr Kocx ensures patients receive the most accurate diagnosis before any invasive treatment is considered.

Education & Training

Dr Kocx completed his medical degree at Western Sydney University and subsequently pursued a Master of Public Health at the University of Sydney, reflecting his commitment to both clinical excellence and population-level cardiac health.
He attained Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Adult Cardiology in 2025, completing his advanced training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital — one of Australia’s premier academic cardiac centres.

Dr Kocx is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Sydney, conducting doctoral research into right heart physiology using translational multimodal imaging approaches, under the supervision of Professor David Celermajer and Professor Sean Lal — two of Australia’s most eminent cardiovascular researchers.

  • MBBS — Western Sydney University (2014–2018)
  • MPH — University of Sydney (2020–2023)
  • FRACP (Adult Cardiology) — Conferred 2025
  • Cardiology Training — Royal Prince Alfred Hospital
  • PhD Candidate — University of Sydney & Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (2025–present)

Research

Dr Kocx is an internationally recognised researcher in right heart physiology and advanced cardiac imaging. His doctoral work is generating novel insights into right ventricular and right atrial diastolic function — an underexplored yet clinically critical area of cardiology.

He has presented his research at leading international conferences including ESC Heart Failure and the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) Scientific Sessions, where he received the prestigious ASE President’s Circle distinction for a top-scoring abstract submission.

Dr Kocx serves as a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney (since 2021) and as an Editorial Fellow at Heart, Lung and Circulation — demonstrating his commitment to shaping the next generation of cardiologists and contributing to the peer-reviewed literature.
