Electrocardiogram (ECG)

Quick, painless ECG test to assess heart rhythm and electrical activity — a fundamental cardiac diagnostic at One Heart Centre.

What is It?

An Electrocardiogram, commonly known as an ECG, is a simple, quick and painless test that records the electrical activity of your heart. It helps your cardiologist assess your heart rhythm, detect abnormalities and identify potential cardiac conditions.

At One Heart Centre, our cardiologists use the ECG as a fundamental baseline assessment for heart health. The test involves no radiation and takes only a few minutes to perform.

Why is It Performed?

At One Heart Centre, our cardiologists may perform an ECG to:

  • Assess heart rhythm and heart rate
  • Investigate symptoms such as chest pain, palpitations, dizziness or fainting
  • Detect arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms)
  • Identify signs of a previous or current heart attack
  • Monitor the effects of heart medications
  • Establish a baseline assessment of overall cardiac health

The ECG is one of the most commonly performed and clinically essential heart tests available.

What Does the Test Involve?

Small adhesive electrodes are placed on your chest, arms and legs. These electrodes are connected by wires to the ECG machine, which records your heart’s electrical signals in real time.

You will be asked to lie still and breathe normally while the recording is taken. The test is completely painless and usually takes just 5–10 minutes from start to finish. Once complete, the electrodes are gently removed and you can resume your normal activities immediately.

What are the Benefits?

  • Fast, non-invasive assessment of heart rhythm and electrical function
  • Invaluable in diagnosing a wide range of cardiac conditions
  • No radiation exposure whatsoever
  • Safe and painless for patients of all ages
  • Provides important baseline heart information for ongoing care
